Last night I came home from school and was hungry. So was Brendan. We decided to make up some food and have it ready for when Kiley got home.

What can we make?

We start rummaging through the cupboards and the freezer looking for something to make.

Let's marinate something in BEER!!! we decided.

We looked online for some sweet recipes, but no dice. With a little engineering spirit we decided to make our own food and our own recipe. It was pretty tasty, so I am putting it here for all to see and copy.

SKYLER AND BRENDANS BEER-CHEESE-MEAT-RICE

Here is what you need:
1 bottle Wolaver's Organic IPA
1 bottle Guinness
2 cans Busch Light
2 boxes Zatarain's Dirty Rice
1 package Johnsonville Brats
1 hunk of Velveeta "cheese"
1 spoonful of minced garlic

Preparation:
1) Freeze the brats for about 1.5 years.
2) Defrost brats in microwave.
3) Pour beer in big pot (leaving 0.5 cans) and bring to boil.
4) Cut brats into small slices.
5) Using leftover beer, sauté brats with garlic.
6) Once beer is boiling, dump in the dirty rice mix and brats.
7) Let simmer for about 20 minutes.
8) Drop in a big hunk of Velveeta and stir until melted evenly.
9) Serve in bowls and eat up!

It has been quite awhile since my last entry. Oh, well.

I am happy to report that I am once again in a band. The name of our band (thus far) is:

The Beat Freqs

It consists of myself and some folks from the analog group. So far all we can play is Seven Nation Army and Don't Stop Believin', but you have to start somewhere, eh?

Knowing us, we will probably have a band webpage in about 5 minutes.

Today was a good day. *ah*

Kiley, Brendan, Kiley's dad Marty, Kiley's bro Jess, and I all ran the McDonald Forest 15K today and it was flippin' sweet!

The weather was perfect for a day of running and the trail was also quite fun to run on. The hardest part of the race was that there was a friggin' HUGE hill right in the middle of the race. I am talking about 900ft over 1 mi. That is crazy!!!

Then to make matters worse, at mile 9 I got stung by a yellow-jacket right on the calf. Ouch! But I finished strong at 1:21:25 placing my 9th in my age division.

Brendan got a yellow-jacket stuck in his sleeve and it stung him like 9 times. That would be worse I think.

Either way, it was a lot a bit of fun.

Life's haiku

Kiley, Ben, and I were eating at Fung's today when we realized something amazing.

it all started with Kiiley getting a double-fortuned cookie that read something like:

You will find much happiness on this day.

Good fortune is coming your way.

What is the probability that he would get double fortunes that rhyme!!! Then we decided that it might be lower than you would expect since many things rhyme with "day"

souffle
trebuchet
sorbet
guantanamo bay

Here comes the moment of insight: ANYTHING IN PIG LATIN

By using pig latin, writing a poem is now a breeze! Even a baby could do it.

This Poem Took Me 3 Minutes
by Skyler Weaver

When walking to the orstay
I came accross an unkskay
And although it was quite ellysmay
I held my same orse-cay

Then the skunk tackedatay
With its smelly artsfay
Now I smell like oopeepay!
Thus I have no more endsfray

Six days until the Portland marathon.

I feel I will be ready, but I will have not run for 2 weeks when I start the race.

About a week ago I pulled my Achilles tendon, and just tonight I dug a piece of glass from the bottom of my foot.

Due to these injuries I have not been able to run. As frustrating as this is, it may be for the best since I have a bad habit of overtraining just before a race.

Good luck to me.

Tonight, James and I were walking around Portland. We started at the Saturday Market where we had quite tasty "pasties" (Which are appearantly *not* just pastries minus the 'r') filled with cheese potatos and onions. My oh my! Lot's of onions!

Long story short: we ended up at Powell's Books.

After we left we were walking along when some crazy lady was yelling from her upstairs apartment window to us. She was yelling about how she dropped her box of cigarettes. Sure enough, lo and behold, cigarettes.

Lady: Hey! Do you smoke?!?
James: No I do not.
Lady: Hey! Do you smoke?!?
Me: No.

*pause*

Lady: Then throw them up here!
Me: OK, but this is going to take at least 5 tries...
Lady: What?
Me: Nothing.

*throws cigarettes*

Guy (one floor down): (pops headout window) What you throwing up hea'?!? Dat' money???
Me: No it's cigarettes.
Guy: Oh I have plenty of those.
Lady: (yelling to other lady across street) Hey you!
Other lady: Wat!? You talkin' to me??
Lady: You smoke?
Other lady: What!? Does it look like I smoke?! (it does)
Lady: (to me) Give 'em to her, k?

*give cigarettes to Other lady*

Other lady: If you want these, you are gonna have to get your fat [bottom] down he'e you'self! I aint bringin' these up to you!
Lady: No! Keep em!

Whew! That was a fun experience. I did not realize that cigarettes could cause such a commotion. Then again it was not as bad as what happened at American Eagle...

I was looking at flip-flops as mine had just died. I was standing *right next-to* this other guy that was also looking at sandles. At this point, James points a T-shirt out to me and I (of course) read it aloud.

AN AWKWARD MORNING IS BETTER THAN A BORING NIGHT

The guy just tries to ignore me, but after looking at the look on James' face, I had just realized what happened. I tried to make it better but I think I only made it worse by saying:

"That was on a T-shirt. I wasn't just trying to make a pass at you."

The look on that guys face... PRICELESS

This weekend I ran Hood to Coast again. It was *epic* so I wrote this:

Hood to Coast 2006
by Skyler Weaver

Hood to Coast, oh, magical Hood to Coast
You are arduous and nothing like toast.
I ran you quite quickly, I quite proudly boast.
For the seventeen miles I ran at most.

You are a race that's not for the lazy.
Being trapped in a van makes you go crazy.
Much sitting and sipping on Gatorade.
Running is funner when done in the shade.

Now that its over I let out a cheer.
That's until I do it again next year.

It was a good weekend:

I slept alot.

In other news, I no longer use Windows. Linux is very cool and we all know this. You see, I have been looking at different distributions lately and decided that the most completely awesome one out there is Ubuntu. It uses the Debian kernel so it is quite good; moreover, it is very stable and very secure. Also it is darnn easy to install and tweak (pretty much has GUI for almost all the stuff you used to have do at command line). The other supercool thing about it is that the install fits on to ONE CD. (That may not sound cool to you, but consider that Fedora Core is 6 CDs) So you burn the iso and boot from the CD. It is *actually* a LIVE CD so you can mess with the OS and see if you like it without even installing it (very cool). Then if you do (you do) like it, you just click install and it walks you through formatting your drive/adding partitions, etc. It is brilliant and I fell in love and so I know I’ve got to give it a try .

And I know the roads to riches
And I know the ways to pain
I know all the rules and then I know how to break’em
And then I always know the name of the game

As I was typing "got to give it a try" Air Supply sang the identical line. Sorry. Sidetracked.

Note "give it a try." Being very smart, I decided that instead of just clicking 'reformat entire harddrive and install' I should probably set up a dual-boot so I don't completely lose Windows in case I decide that Ubuntu eats balls after a week of trying it. To set up the dual-boot I defragment the drive to put Windows at the front of the disk. Then restart with the Linux System Recover CD so I can resize the NTFS-partition (Windows) so there will be some empty room for Ubuntu. I noticed that Windows has a habit of putting your system restore points at the END of the disk and they are UNMOVEABLE, so defragging the drive doesn't move them.

"Oh well," I think, "I don't need those restore points. I will just make new ones later"

(This turns out to be NOT TRUE)

Anyway, I install Ubuntu and it works like a charm. I am not a fan of the default theme (orange and brown) but there are multiple themes installed so I just picked another one and Ubunty looks sexy. Every time I didn't know how to do something in Ubuntu, I just go to ubuntuforums.org and I see that every question I had was unoriginal and there are a katrillion-trillion walkthroughs on the site by Linux pros. So I tweak Ubuntu out and it is flipping awesome. I begin to think that I could really use this OS as my primary. It is so much faster than Windows and can't get spyware or viruses.

So I want to check and see if Windows still starts. I boot up and choose "Windows" from Ubuntu's GRUB boot chooser. Windows tries to boot up and then dies and shuts off the computer instead. Actually the OPPOSITE of what I wanted it to do. So I try to start in Windows again.

"It appears that Windows did not start correctly last time."

No duh. More like choked on a piece of computer-chicken-bone or something. So I choose "Restart Windows from last known good configuration" (recall that I deleted the system restore points) Again: cough-choke-cough. Computer off. I try again; this time in SAFE MODE. Again: nada. Windows is dead.

I am now beginning to think: "Holy crap. I am screwed. I need my excel sheet to do bills that are due in about 2 days! What do I do?!"

I boot up Ubuntu.

The friendly OS boots up smooth and I see that the Windows NTFS partition is automatically mounted on my desktop. I open it up. "Ah! All of my files!" Sure enough I can access all of the files and things are good. I can open my excel sheet and do my bills and everything is golden.

To conclude, not out of my own will, I have decided to completely switch to Ubuntu as my OS cold turkey; not looking back. It’s a good thing that so far Ubuntu is amazing. If you want any piece of software, you just open the Add/Remove programs app and it connects to the online repository that has about every Linux program ever written and always has the latest edition. To install (for example I wanted a good mp3 player) you merely check the box in front of that program and click OK. It installs it for you and says

"Here you go. Have some fun mp3 listening! Would you like some soda? I put some in the fridge."

Then the real magic: I open some of my 80s music. It is SO FAST!!! I double-click the song I want to listen to and it was LITERALLY playing about 0.5 seconds later. BAM! THE PROGRAM IS OPEN! Not the usual 40+ second wait from Windows Meida Player or the new Winamp5. So impressive.

So my final statement is that I think everyone should switch to Ubuntu. It is
1) Free.
2) Easy to use.
3) Stable.
4) Fast.
5) Sexy.

Important note: The Portland DMV does not take small change.

However, you may be happy to know that: Pepita's Mexican Restaurant DOES take small change.

For lunch today, James, Jared, and I went to Pepita's to get some good food. The food was indeed good. So was the slammin' hotties. (There were 2 quite gorgeous hottie-bo-bodies there)

Back to my story. As we were fixing to pay, we were trying to figure out how we were going to pay. Y'know: two people have cash, but one guy only has credit, so you pay him and hey pays the whole bill. The only drawback to this approach is that if the person paying cheaps on the tip then the whole group looks like cheapskates. As we were splitting up the bill, our server comes by.

"We take nickles and dimes."

We return an odd look.

"I was at the Portland DMV the other day and had to pay $35.50 and I tried to pay the fifty-cents with nickels and pennies and the worker said that the DMV would only accept 2-quarters or bills! He said that he had been there for 19 years but that he would be fired if he was off by a nickle! That's crazy! He was there 19 years: they wouldn't fire him over a nickel!"

He said the story with such conviction that Jared observed that he had probably been waiting for a chance to tell someone about that crazy DMV.

Let that be a lesson to you then, and learn from the now-wise Mexican Restaurant Owner: bring large bills when re-newing your licence.

Woke up this morning with a killer Muchas hangover. Last night I had a chimichanga before going to bed; against my better judgement.

Let me just say that the run to work was a little bit burpy. Not especially awesome. At least the weather today is perfect. It is a beautiful overcast day. The likes of which don't often happen in the middle of July. I like it.

So, on my run to work I came to realize a very important generalization:

Nuns are bad drivers.

This may not be true for all nun, but this nun today made eye contact and then backed up her car. Then when I was almost in front of her car, she shot out into traffic. Thanks alot, Sister Whatsyourface.

It makes sense though:
Women are bad drivers.
Nuns are women.
Therefore, nuns are bad drivers.

A breath of fresh air. Today is day two of week two of my 12-week summer internship at Tektronix.

It is fun here pretty much. Anyways, as of today I am going to try and commute to work by running every day. I live a mere 3.7 miles from Tek, so if I run there and back that would be 7.4mi. The plan is to do this every day except Friday, for that is the day that I will bring a new set of clothes for the next week.

YES, I take a shower when I get here. They wouldn't let me run around the office smelling like running. My favorite part about it is that not only do I turn my commute into my workout, and not only do I cut down on greenhouse gases, but I am not so gosh-darn tired when I sit in my cube. Ususally it is all I can do to not fall asleep. But running gives you energy. Yay energy!

Also I feel that it is important to note that THE BEAVERS WON THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES!!! Oregon State is the best. We have the best band in the west. The baseball team is also good. We make the other team look like fools.

It was so nice.

I got to run today.

Well, I didn't actually have free time, but I decided to take the time to go run.

It was a nice little 5mi run down to the river and back. :)

I can't wait for all of the work of school to end...yet there is something fun about being here. I think it is all the people. That, I will miss.

So we were at Izzy's trying to come up with a good joke. We thought up one and asked the waitress (her name was Erin) whe she thought.

Needless to say, she did not laugh at the joke...maybe I just didn't deliver it well. See what you thinnk:

A termite walks into a barn.
The barntender says, "What would you like to drink?"
But what exactly is a barntender?
Is it like a farmer?
No.
It is more like a stableboy because a farmer plants seed.

She didn't think it was funny either.

Jokes may not be our forté, so what!

Because my joke was *underwhelming*, Kiley wrote a riddle:

What is the difference between a burrito and a egg sandwhich?

Skyler's answer: If a food has more than one discrete bread element, or if the bread is discontinuous, it is a sandwich. A burrito is defined as having a single continuous bread element. Technically, this means an open-faced sandwhich is actually a burrito.

Kiley's answer: A burrito makes less of a mess when you put it in your butt.

I still think I like my answer.

We just moved into our new house last night. Downstairs in Kiley's room, the carpet was soked with water. You see, the storage room's drain was plugged up and so with all the rain from the weekend it backed up and made a small lake.

"Uncool!" we thought. Se we called our landlords and they were over there in a matter of minutes. They immediately called the Rotor Rooter and they came within the hour. They cleared the plug and all the water drained away. Yay!

Then this morning a guy came and shampooed the carpet. It was too bad that there was a problem with water at all, but it was a great test of our landlord's and they passed with flying colors. Maybe flying red and flying blue.

Today I purchased my textbooks. Textbooks are SO expensive! That is why I started a tradition that I buy a novel also each term. Face it: they are more fun to read and the are MUCH cheaper.

Well since Wicked is coming to Portland in Septemeber and I have been pretty much listening to the soundtrack nonstop, I bough the book: Wicked by Gregory Maguire. So far it is good but I haven't got too far, but it is great that I have something to pull out between classes and read.

Besides, reading novels is better than TV...no commercials! Ha!
Date: 03/23/2006

Wicked is coming to PDX this fall! I can't wait. If you are not familiar, it is an awesome musical. Music is awesome and the story is good. I want tickets.

Had my first violin lesson today.

Needless to say, I am not super good yet. Ha. But I can another instument to the list of instruments that I own.

This should be a productive break. I have to finish the book for my thesis and a fellowship application. There will also be much running to train for the marathon.

In other news, I have been accepted to OSU for grad school and it will be free again!!! Yay scholarships.

It has been a LOOOONG week. There were two projects that I had to do, but I had to go to California with the band to play at the Pac-10 Basketball Tournaments.

It was fun, but it makes it quite hard to work on projects. I actually borrowed someone's computer on the trip so that I could start netlisting the new circuit for one project.

Then this week we worked all day, every day pretty much nonstop on making a fully differential opamp that meets some relatively difficult specifications. Long story short: we didn't meet all the specs. We did, however, have to work 24 hours and 40 minutes straight on the project. It was such a stressful experience that I wrote this sonnet:

HSPICE: the H is for Horrible
by: Skyler Weaver

We run our design and test common mode.
Success! Phase margin is more than OK!
Just in case we err, we back up our code.
Run again: the phase looks like a melee.

How can this be that it meets spec at midnight?
But not at ten after, nor fifteen, nor forty?
Oh, the stress as we begin to see daylight.
Then, out of nowhere, the phase is again lovely.

chmod your files! That is the problem!
Hackers are changing your code when you rest.
chmod -R to protect from the Phantom.
But now we're out of time, so lay out our best.

I learned a lot: my design skills are finer.
But still I am not yet an expert designer.

I'm not sure if it is a crime, but today I went into someone's house and stole something.

In my defense, I was very thirsty and I only stole some water. It wasn't really breaking and entering because the door was unlocked, so it was more like entering.

Granted, is was AJ's house so I bet he wont press charges. But then I got to thinking: could he technically press charges? After all I did enter without permission and I did drink two glasses of water. And I did check the fridge to see if there was anything good (which there wasn't).

Either way it doesn't matter, but I did get to run today. It has been an entire month since I last ran. It felt good. And it had better: marathon in T-minus 54 days.

I talked to Casey Nash today. That was fun.

We were waiting for the plane after the Women's Pac-10 Basketball Tournement and the team was sitting behind us.

I turned around to Nash and asked her a good question:

If you could be a robot, what kind would you be?

She said, "Um, what do you mean?"

I mean, for example, I would be the Jaws of Life 2000.

I would have sharp metal teeth and when people get in car accidents I could show up an eat the car away from them to save their lives!

I would definately have 6 arms. Two would be wings so that I can fly to the victims. I would also have 2 wheels so I can drive fast to the hospital!

One of my arms would be an InFocus projector and another would be a LASER pointer so I can give presentations about good driving.

So what kind of robot would you be?

"I'm not sure. Let me get back to you."

And then she never talked to me ever again. So I have to wonder what kind of robot she would be...

Maybe a discobot...

Berkeley rejected me.

Crowd gasps.

So I will be going to OSU for my graduate work.

Standing ovation

Looks like I am going to be seeing more of Corvallis. In other news, Kiley and I went to a masquerade last night for our dance class. It was fun, but I had to write a *paragraph* about it. So what did I do? I wrote a sonnet.

The Sonnet of My First Masquarade
by Skyler Weaver

The night begins with polka dancing lecture
The room is warm from many bodies dancing
Then the lights, the music: a new texture
Pick the girl that toward you sees you glancing

Swing with Stephanie and attempt a turn
She follows flawlessly: dance number one
You don't know the two-step so watch and learn
Nikki knows neither so dance just for fun

Now foxtrot with Kelley who takes Ballroom III
My mind goes blank so we half-box progressive
Then a beautiful girl askes to dance with me
('Twas Betsy from class looking quite impressive)

Dancing in public adds another dimention
I must practice more to steal the attention

Today the PKG got to rip it and stick it!

The basketball game tonight was themed "Beach" for the band. So we went ahead and went all out. Kiley pained his chest O; Brendan, S; and I, U. The previous sentence is a bit confusing.

To add to the beach theme I put toothpaste on my nose so that it would look like I had a white nose (to stick with the whole "Beach" theme). I learned two interesting things tonight:

1. Toothpase burns when left on your nose for 2 hours
2. Cheerleaders are more like cheerfollowers

About the last statement: We were so pumped up for the game that we were ready to start yelling. However, the so called "cheerleaders" only started two or three cheers during the first 6 minutes of the game. This did not sit well with the big dog (Kiley and Brendan and Yours Truly). So we decided "OK, well if they are not going to cheer, then we will." We did. And in doing so we discovered a great power that we have: if we start a cheer that the cheerleaders have routines to, they are required to do them as we chant.

We did this A LOT. We thought maybe the cheer squad would think we were awesome for helping raise some spirit, but alas, no: they did not look pleased. In fact, I would even go so far as to say they were displeased. So here is our message to theses Negative-Nancy-types:

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CHEER, THEN GO GET A TICKET!

Nuff said.

I read a *very* good article about politics as of late. It states how that political debate should be about ethics and not morals and for very good reason!

It also addresses the issue that neither the left or the right are inherently evil because both stand for ethical ideals. It is only when morals enter the scene do things get corrupt. Makes separation of church and state not seem so crazy, eh?

Give it your self a read:

The Death of Ethics in Democracy

Enjoy!

Surface mount parts are small. The magnetic sensors that we are using for navigo are on the SOIC8 package (small) and AJ's accelerometers are QFN44. That is 7mm x 7mm with 44 pins! For the final prototype, we can have a solder fairy put the parts on our PCB, but for the first prototype, we are going to put it on a vector board with 100mil spacing.

To do this we had to spend $50 on adapters that we can solder the parts to that go out to a managable size. Crazy.

In other news, Tektronix just contacted me about another summer internship. Yay internship!

Still have not heard back from grad schools, but I am still applying for funding.

With that, I am off to play at a basketball game!

I belive it was Aristotle that said to be fulfilled you there are 4 aspects of life that you need to grow in. I don't remember what his were, but I have thought of my own. They are:

Physical
Mental
Artistic
Philosophical

And I say that to be fulfilled, you need to find a passion or hobby in each of these catergories so that you can be fulfilled. If you lack in one or two, then something will be "missing" and life will drag. Case in point. Last year all I did was electrical engineering (Mental) and I was so burnt out and miserable that I hated it. But now, I have a very good balance and I don't hate engineering or life. Hooray! For me, my passions are:

Physical - Running
Mental - Electrical Engineering
Artistic - Piano
Philosophical - Politics

I now would like to theorize that perhaps as a government the ruleing body should also span these 4 areas. I think that if there was a governing council that consisted of Medical Doctors/Environmentalists, Scientists/Engineers, Anthropologists, and Ethics Philosophers then there wouuld be a good balance and the council could address all sides of an issue.

I am going to do more thinking about this and make some changes to this philosophy, but I like it so far.

My mom is hilarious when it comes to remembering the names of technology. For example, she maintains that it is a "MCP Player." We try to explain that it is MP3, but no dice.

Recently there was another fun development. Jared wanted to take a TV that we had laying around the house. The problem with it is that it only has a coax input which means that his Playstation won't directly connect to it. So she asks me if there is any clever way to hook it up. "Oh, you need a RF modulator," says Skyler, "Then you can plug the TV into the modulator and the Playstation into it too." I told her that she could get one at Fred Meyer or Radio Shack for $20-30.

Within minutes, she is telling Jared on the phone that he can get a "TS7" for the TV so he could use the Playstation. I corrected her: RF modulator

Later, Mom was at the store and called me asking, "What was that thing I needed to get? A TS7?" No. A RF modulator.

Not long after that, I realized that I had purchased one earlier and it was in Corvallis. I no longer needed it and so I could give it to Jared. Mom was happy about this. When I was leaving to Corvallis, my mom presents me a note to remind me to get the "TS7." You mean RF modulator. So she rewrote it.

Driving back from Corvallis, Ben and I are having a chuckle about how Mom calls it a TS7. So I call her to tell her that I brought the RF modulator home, where she referred to it as a TS7 again. Actually, it is a RF modulator. Oh yeah.

Not two hours later, Ben and I are at Muchas when Mom calls me. Here is how the conversation went

Skyler: Hi
Mom: Hi. Jared said that he is leaving soon so where is the TS...
TS7?
Yeah.
It's a RF modulator.
Oh yeah that's right.
Yeah, it is at the house so Jared can pick it up. Ben and I think it is funny that you call it a TS7.
Oh, do I always call it that?
Yes, and we don't know why. There is not a T anywhere in RF modulator, nor a S, nor a 7. Did you just make it up?
Um...I don't know. (laughing) What is it again?
RF modulator
Let's see, how can I remember that. RF can stand for...Rogue...Fighting...
Rogue Fighting? It stands for Radio Frequency.
Oh! (more laughing)
(laughing)
Are you guys laughing at me?
Yes we are. (laughing)

Ben and I laughed so hard that we almost felt sick. It is proof that the funniest things in life are not well-thought out jokes, but just funny people doing funny things. (In this case it is my mom)

I feel great. Sleeping is awesome.

Monday I ran 18 miles with Kiley and felt great, so now we are trying to get on a better sleeping schedule. So today after going in to Hillsburrito I came home, played the Hanon exercises and then took a nap at 6:30pm. Three hours later I wake up...and now I am going back to bed. Hooray sleep!

So tomorrow I am going to get up, do a short run, give Geoff a piano lesson, and then off to Corvallis for New Years.

I still need to call U. of Edinburgh about their program to see if they need me (crossing fingers) but I think I will wait until after the new year to phone Dr. Reekie to see if they still need a grad student to research. Scotland would be a cool place to study. But you know, of my three applications, Edinburgh, Berkeley, and Oregon State, they would be great places to study!

I guess I will wait and see where I get accepted and what funding I get.

2006 will be an awesome year, I can't wait! Three marathons and a new school is the plan. Hooray!

Chrismas break has been pretty good so far. I've eaten lots of Muchas, hot tubbed it a bunch, and I've already gone snowboarding.

Earlier this week I got my applications off to Berkeley and Oregon State. I would very much like to go to either of these. Berkeley is much more prestigious, and I think would have a better program. I am still, however, looking into schools in Scotland. Unfortunately most of these schools integrated circuits programs are currently studying MEMS, which is not exactly what I want to do; hoever, they still may need research in A/D, RF & mm, or on-chip interconnect and I would be fine. It would be quite an experience to go to Scotland and I really want to go. If I don't go there for school, maybe once I get my Master's I will merely visit Scotland for a month or so. That would be a blast.

Other than that I am just relaxing, playing piano, singing Les Mis with Brother Doug, writing a paper, and taking it easy. Hooray break!

Ah yes. The quiet after the storm is nice.

Today I ran 6 miles, ate free Hovland pizza, and now I am sitting in front of my computer with my legs in a bucket of ice, drinking Gatorade, and applying to grad school. Everything seems so calm compared to yesterday...

* * * F L A S H B A C K * * *

It started out as a good day. It was the day of the Tau Beta induction. I knew something would go wrong, but I just didn't know what. I called the ME students to make sure that we wouldn't conflict with them. The MU confirmed that we were set to go and that catering confimed too.

Time passes. At T-minus one hour, I go to the MU to see how the room was set up. (shocked face) ! It was set up wrong! There was no way we could perform the ceremony the way that it was set up, so I quickly summoned my team. We set up the room in a jif and were ready to go. The ceremony went off without a hitch. I thought we were off scot-free: no problems; but I was dead wrong.

GASP! Catering never showed up! "Sorry folks, catering appears to have not shown up."

Turns out that catering just screwed up. So they are refunding us, plus giving us a free make-up dinner. That will do, but still can not undo they way it made us look to our newly inducted members. Oh well, you can't win them all.

I am now officially registered for the PF Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona marathon.

I now have a little under two months to train for a nice 26.2 mile run. It's is nice to have a goal, though, that will keep me out there running. Especially through the winter.

Kiley and I went on a nice 5 mile run today and it was so refreshing since I haven't really had a chance to run for like 2 weeks. Yikes!

In other news: I finally beat Final Fantasy VII! It was good. I almost got really mad because I thought that...well I'm not gonna say right here, because I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't played it yet. So ask me why I was almost mad if you really care. (The smart money says you don't, so I didn't even need that disclaimer)
Date: 11/03/2005

I am mad.

The GRE is the STUPIDEST test in the world. I am studying for this thing and it is rediculous. There are NO CALCULATORS. This means that when they give you a question like Company XYZ sold 3427 cars last year, but that is only 17% of what they sold the previous year. How many did they sell two years ago? This is easy, its (3427)/(.17)...but I don't want to work that out by hand! That is why there are calculators and computers. I can freaking symbolically perform Fourier transforms and differentiate nonlinear functions. So how does 3427/.17 test my math ability?

Then there are the questions... This is an actual question from the practice:

Art realized that he had 2 more quarters than he had originally thought in his pocket. If all of the change in his pocket is quarters and it totals to $8.75, how many quarters did he originally think were in his pocket?

A. 27
B. 29
C. 31
D. 33
E. 35

What I want to know is who actually "originally thinks" they have ANY number of quarters in their pocket? Especially 33. Art seriously thought he had THIRTY-THREE quarters in his pocket? Who guesses 33?

I have rewritten the question to make more sense:

Art realized that he had 2 more quarters than he had originally thought in his pocket. Art also has Down's Syndrome and OCD, because no one else would care about QUARTERS and epecially HOW MANY are in their pocket. Right now, I might have some quarters in my pocket from change from when I BOUGHT stuff. But it doesn't matter, because I might have one, maybe three, but there is not a CHANCE that I have any where near 27!!! If all of the change in his pocket is quarters and it totals to $8.75, how high would Art score on an IQ test?

A. 27
B. 29
C. 31
D. 33
E. 35

And the test is on Monday. I don't want to take it: not because it will be too hard, but because it will be a 4 hour test of high quality questions such as seen above. I would rather just pay an extra twenty bucks and get an average score. Unfortunately that isn't an option. So I will take the dang test.

Applying for grad school is being a lot of work.

I have to decide what I want to specialize in, and I need to choose whether I want to get a fellowship, teaching assistantship, or a reasearch assistantship.

On top of all of this, I have to apply for funding. I really want to go to Glasgow, because I think studying in another county would be very, very cool; however, if I can't afford it, I can't go. I really hope TBP throws $10k my way and that I can get some sort of scholarship through Glasgow, but it isn't looking too good right about now.

MIT would be another possibility, but I have heard that the stress there is very high. But it might be nice to be working with *smart* people for a change. Heck, maybe they would be smarter than me. That would be nice.

Berkeley and Stanford would all be cool, but then, so would OSU. I just think it would be good to go some place else from a resume point of view. And I still have to study for the GRE...

Time for new shoes.

Last week I went running for about 9 miles and *really* hurt my right foot. So I had to stay off of it for an entire week. I tried running last night for only 5 miles and again injured my foot.

After careful inspection of my shoes, I determined the cause to be that my shoes are worn out. I put about 500 miles on them, so it is time to get some more. Too bad...shoes are expensive, but with 2 marathons up in about a month, I need to get on it.

Halloween is coming up, though, and I am going to be a pirate! Haven't shaved in 3 days and the beard is already starting to come in. Scary.

This weekend I went to Utah. That was pretty cool.

I was there for a Tau Beta Pi conference, but we skipped some of the meetings to go to the Temple Square, and have some fun.

It was a great trip! All my friends, however, ran the Portland Marathon, so now I am uncool until I run one. But I went running and hurt my foot. That screws up training for this week.

Now I just need to start on homework and grad school apps, because otherwise I will run out of time because of all of these trips...

I was riding my bike on campus today and had to take a detour because some folks were setting up a big tent.

People were following the path over a grassy knoll, and so I followed. But then the grassy area ended in a dead end of trees and hedge.

But, lo! There is a path through the trees. So I ride through and duck so that I may miss some of the leaves

BAM!!!

I stopped suddenly as I HIT MY HEAD on a limb of a tree.

As I stand there gathering myself, I decide that I am not bleeding badly and nothing is broken, so I rode to Kelley.

I stand in line at the e-cafe for a few minutes with a paper towel pressed to my head. When it was my turn, I asked for a bag of ice.

When they asked me why, I then immediately realized how stupid I was.

I ran into a tree.

It's over!!!

My internship is over and it feels weird. It doesn't feel like it should be...it doesn't feel like it is time to go back to school. So I am back in Corvallis and merely running and cleaning my room. It's nice, but I was getting used to the 40 hour a week work week. We will see if I can handle this lack of structure. Haha. Of course I can, its me!

So to keep me even more busy, I have decided to write a Sonata. I was enspired by the window story (ask me about it if you don't know it) and so I am entitleing the sonata The Window Story and it is beautiful. Again, it is in D, but there is a key change to F#m. It is a delight. If I finish it, it will be my first actual song with any substance. It is basically 'variations on a theme' but it will be good. Stay tuned...if I write music and record it, it will appear on this site, so don't you worry!

My first Hood to Coast ever and it was great! My vanmates were awesome and we had a hoot of a time.*

(see the pictures)

I ran leg 6. It worked out GREAT. My first leg was verrrrrry hot and hilly and so that drained me a bit, but then the next leg was at midnight so it was nice and cool, and the last was in the morning. Also, since I was last to run in our van, after catching about 2 hours of sleep after the second leg, I got to sleep another 5 hours while everyone else was up and running.

The funniest part of the trip (well, one of them) was on a 7 mile leg that Mike was running along highway 30 at pitch black night. He asked us to check on him at about half-way and see if he was alright. At his request, we drove about 4 mi up and pulled over the van. At this point, John and Aaron, our cheer crew get out of the van and start to cheer on the runners as we wait for Mike. After doing this for about 15 or 20 minutes, they tire and John starts to look for something in the back of the van, and Aaron gets back in the van. At this point, Mike goes running by.
"Hey, Mike? Is that you? Are you OK?" shouts John.
It was. And he was OK.

After re-reading that, it might not sound as funny to you as it really was. That is because YOU didn't just run lots of miles and not sleep. If you just did THAT, then you would probably think it is HILARIOUS. But then again, you would also think that FOX News is hilarious, when in fact it is not. It is horrible.

At the end of it all, I am not a bit tired and sore and feeling great. But I wanted some nachos REALLY bad. So I just went and got some. Mmmm. Good.

* That's right: hoot. You don't have to be over 40 to use this word. Of course, in using the word I am playing off of the fact that it is ironic that I am young and strapping, and yet use an "old person" word. Hahaha. That is funny.

I met a girl for coffee yesterday. She was gorgeous, I mean, "holy crap, man" gorgeous. Brown eyes, brown hair.

Unfortunately, I don't think I will be calling her anytime soon. After only a few minutes, I quickly gathered that we didn't have very much in common. (see the below list) Actually none of these things by themselves would be that bad. However, when summed all together...

The List of Incompadability
1. She was 20 minutes late
2. She brought her friend
3. She had a daughter
4. She had never played a musical instrument
5. She didn't know the Calculus
6. She was very conservative
7. She didn't like to read...anything
8. She thought Coors Light tastes good

So as you can tell, it was painful to try and even keep a conversation going for 20 minutes. Tis a shame. She had the good looks. I almost wanted to say something about what I do, but she would have either not believed me, or would have no idea what I am talking about.

Awesome. Better luck next time, Skyler.

Oh, the magical solder fairies. You are so magnificent!

At work, I made these circuit boards and used all surface mount parts (i.e. verrrrry small). When I got the boards, I tried soldering on the parts myself to no avail. I melted my board and ruined my parts...

So I send off the boards/parts to the wonderful people of Building 19 at Board Repair. I asked them to take a look and let me know how long it would take them.

I come to work the next day and they call me and say that I am short on parts that I gave them, and I need to bring over some more. Hakuna matata! I see the boards, they were already done, minus the part that I brought over. Wow. And these solder joints are solid and SMALL. I am so impressed. So impressed that I deemed them worthy of a poem that can live forever. Behold, the Ode to the Solder Fairy:

Ode to the Solder Fairy
By Skyler Weaver

Oh solder fairy, your speed is quite impressive
Nimbly placing components both active ones, and passive.
From where, oh where, did such a being come from?
From Building 19, my son; with its glory and its sanctum.

When I make a board myself, with parts all surface mount,
My skills of solder are rather dismal on every such account.
Oh no! The board is melting; and parts: they all are frying!
Maybe I would feel better if I was not even trying.

But lo, and hark! A soft flute plays, delicately on the ear!
The dainty sound of the fairy's entrance when doth she does appear.
"Smells like metal. The sweet smell of burning metal," it was then she said
"No that isn't metal, it can't be! No. That, my dear, is the smell of lead."

She took my boards, SOICs, and parts
Soldering like magic using just her foreparts.
"It's done, here you go, my child," as she hands me back the board
With that she leaves the parking lot, in her Honda Accord.

"Appearing and soldering is magic," she says, "but disappearing is not."
I look down at the completed board and realize I have yet to learn a lot.

I have been robbed!

This weekend I drove all the way to La Grande, Oregon to stay the night with Ben Calhoun so we could go to the wedding the next day. The drive was horrible. Kiley told me that he was going to upload an audiobook for me to listen to on the 4.5 hour drive there, but he couldn't. So I had to listen to the aweful radio that they have in Eastern Oregon.

The next day I got up and run 17 miles out in the fields in La Grande. It was beautiful and peaceful on a Saturday morn. After this, Ben and I drive to Boise, Idaho for the wedding. It was fun.

Then on Sunday, we take off and head for Oregon. We stop to see Carly (the girl from the window, but that is another story) and that was delightful. She has pretty eyes.

Then the drive home: it was not that bad. Ben let me borrow Lies, and the Lying Liars That Tell Them by Al Franken on CD. So listening to that made the drive fly by. All in all it was a good weekend.

This morning, I got up to go to work and someone had broken into my car and stole the CD player out of it. So I didn't get to listen to the radio on the way to work. What's worse, they stole Lies, and the Lying Liars That Tell Them (one of the CDs was in the car). That is lame. So after work I have to call the police and have them file a report. Lame, lame, lame.

I am now, an official runner. It is official.

Last night when I was running, about when I hit mile 4, I came across a small Indian family (yes, from India) that were sitting/playing on the trail. The mother was sitting on the bench watching her two boys: one was in the stroller, and the other was playing nearby. As I come running through, the four-years-old boy points at me with big eyes and exclaims, "Runner, runner!" (Actually it sounded more like [Yah'-noughr]. Again, beacause he was a four-years-old boy) At this point I thought Yea! I am a runner! Nice!

So there you have it. I am an official runner. Feels nice.

Nobody wants to hang out with me, but everyone loves to decline invitations to do so.

I believe that Microsoft Outlook is the single greatest player in the drop of my self esteem. Normally I have a HIGH self esteem. All the time I am feeding myself positive self-talk. I think things like I am totally awesome! or maybe, I am so cool that everyone would want to hang out with me!. Microsoft Outlook is like opposite that.

It is bad enough that I had plans to go to Costco and shopping tonight, and Brooke cancelled. No worries. But then Tara was going to watch a movie on Friday with me...she (guess what!) cancelled. Last Friday my movie date also cancelled. Well at least I can look forward to the Bachelor Party this weekend...wait. It was cancelled too.

So I get the hint, folks: You don't want to hang out with me. But see, then there is Outlook. We interns at Tektronix always eat lunch together once a week. We couldn't do it on Wednesday this week, so I decided to 'make an appointment' with the rest of the interns for today at 12:30pm. Outlook tells you if people accept/decline, but no one had responded yet. So I sent out an email asking people to please respond. Within five minutes two more people declined and that was all.

It hurts a bit. You hear the 'din-dong' of the new email. You check eagerly, only to be crushed with an automated email stating merely 'Declined: Intern Lunch.' Thank you Microsoft. If owning the world wasn't enough. Do you really need to take my spirit, too?

I got my Hood to Coast legs assigned today! I am leg 6. This means that I will be running into St. Helens and handing off at the fairgrounds.

It is ironic that for the two years that I worked at that Hood to Coast stand I had wished that I was running instead. And now, here I am. Running to the very coffee stop that I had been working.

The Nike Run Hit Wonder was fun but we had a bit of trouble. We were taking MAX there (Ben, Brooke, Ben and I) and were stopped at the station when the overhead PA announced: There seems to be a large event at PGE Park, and so we are going to take our time going into downtown. But that is the event I am trying to get to!!! So we were 27 minutes late. As we ran through the starting gate, the staff was dismantleing it with a forklift. As we ran the first mile we had to stop at red lights because they had started to let traffic through. But we eventually caught up to the walkers...then the runners. And we finished with the pack.

And with all of that, I still beat Brendan Soule. :)

It was a good weekend and day.

Recap of the weekend: Ran 12mi, ran 5mi, watched my dad in Fiddler on the Roof (very good, by the way)

Recap of my day: Layed out a PCB at work. Watched The Island (very good, by the way)

And that is that. Now I am just sitting here, eating a huge plate of pasta and drinking water, for tomorrow (trumpet fanfare), tomorrow i shall run 15 miles! (croud cheers)

Well it really isn't that big of a deal, since the rest of the week I will run like 4mi max per day. But thanks for the applause anyway. Shaping up to be a fabulous, hot week.
Date: 07/14/2005

Here is my new diet: Carbs, water, carbs, electrolytes, carbs, carbs, and Carbs!!! I ran 7mi yesterday and at the halfway point I downed a jelly sandwich and a full glass of water. But from what I have been reading, I need to drink fluids with electrolytes such as Gatorade Endurance Formula (R).

So I went and bought some.

I neeeed some sort of waistbelt/pack/waterbottle holster thing. Because if I start running for durations greater than an hour, I will need to hydrate on the fly and eat some Clif Bars at about the 13mi point. I hear that REI has a big sale this Saturday...maybe Kiley and I can go check it out! Then run Forest Park! Woohoo!
Date: 07/13/2005

I don't know what is wrong with me. Last night I was feeling a little bit tired, so I left work at 4:30 and went home to take a nap. I was OUT until 8:30...after the nice 4 hour nap I ate some food, watched some TV, and went to Fred Meyers to buy a button (to make a bracelet) I come home and watch the Daily Show and go to bed at 1am. Wake up to my alarm at 7:10 and I shut the thing of and sleep till 7:45. WHY AM I SO TIRED?!??

It must be that I am running more than I used to and I am eating/sleeping about the same and so I crash. For this reason, I bought some CLIF bars so I can have energy to run after work.

The wonderful folks at Tau Beta Pi are trying to hunt me down. I know, I know. I am the president and so I should be responsible to fill out all of the paperwork, but man! This is crazy. They keep calling and emailing. But I don't have the stuff to fill it all out! Should I just make stuff up! Oh the beuacracy!
Date: 07/10/2005

It was a good weekend. Went to Seaside on Saturday with Kiley. We met up with Brooke, Ben, and Karina. We got taffy, ate at Pacific Bento, and went on the beach.

Then today, Kiley and I went and ran 9.6mi. That was nice. Then I went to The Warped Tour for a bit.

Then everybody go do things and Skyler was all alone. So what did he do?! I went to the toy section in Target! Yeah! Then bought some grapes and ate them! Now I am listening to 80s music and writing this blog. Good weekend.

I want to do something a little more exciting though...maybe involving dressing up like a pirate. Everything is funnier when you are a pirate. Everything.
Date: 07/07/2005

It is official, I am going to run Hood to Coast. Well I guess it will be official when I turn in the form and my $15. That will be fun.

Last night I was feeling kinda sleepy so I sat on my bed for a bit...2.5 hours later I woke up. I didn't run because I think that was my body's way of saying, "Skyler, you run to much. Take a nap."

Tonight I plan on moving all of the pictures from the old site to the new. Then all that is left is 'About Me' and 'Links' Yay website.

Horrah! Yesterday I got new running shoes from the Portland Running Company. They felt nice and so I tried them out on a 7mi run and it was good! I will do the 7mi run again this week to make sure. But methinks that these are a good pair of shoes.

I ran 7mi and that was good beacause I need to get my mileage up to run a marathon...7 is good, but I would like to be at 17 for my workout day. I am going to run the 5K at NikeRunHitWonder, the 10K at Pints to Pasta, maybe Hood to Coast with Tektronix, and then hopefully a marathon at the end of the summer. It will be a lot of work, but running is relaxing.
Date: 06/28/2005

Today was quite the day. And now I am tired. First of all, to start the day off, I got up an hour late (alarm didn't go off) and went to work. Then I played ultimate frisbee at work with some of the folks. That was fun. Tore up my knees ('twas tripped) and smashed my thumb though. So when I got home I decided to take it easy and run 5k. Now I am very sleepy and getting ready for bed. At 10:00!!! Wowzers.
Date: 06/26/2005

I have decided to run a marathon. At least that is the plan. Kiley and I are going to try and start running every day so that we can eventually hit up a marathon. We will have to run the marathon before school starts, however, because once it does, i don't think I will be able to run 5 times a week. I will probably be too busy. That is unfortunate because I would like to continue running. Maybe I will drop a class to even out my courseload over the year. Because now it looks like I will be taking lots in the fall and hardly any in the spring. But that might be nice too. Who knows.

I live in Beaverton now! I have an apartment in King's Court. Number 101 in B7 or something like that. Anyways the best thing about this place so far is: NO HOMEWORK and NO TESTS. It has been such a freaking relief to not have to study over the weekend and not do any homework. Plus, since I live a mere 2 miles from where I work, the commute is going to be beautiful. I can not wait to start.

We don't have cable yet, though. The guy was supposed to come on Saturday, but we wern't there when he was and so he left. So how are you making this journal entry?, you ask. Simple: somebody has wireless internet :)

It is the little things in life that make it so great. Yay.

Horrah! My new webpage, Webpage de Skyler version 2.0 went public last night at about 2:00am. I personally think it looks better. Not to mention cleaner. And this time I used CSS and more PHP so that it will be easier to maintain. Yep. Not all the features have been implimented from the old site, but that is just because I am busy studying for finals. Once I finish that, I will finish the rest of the site. I would like to redo the about me page and make it look spiffy. Oh, and I love the Kitty Quote. He is so freaking cute. Hahaha. So change it to cute things if you wanna! OK folks: Back to the books.

Notice that I updated the ABOUT ME section of my webpage. Also notice that it looks ALOT like the myspace.com format. Lolz. I finally broke down and made myself a profile on myspace. But it is not just any profile. It is AWESOME, and probably the best one IN THE WORLD. So it is also my about me page. If you haven't seen my myspace profile, it can be found at www.myspace.com/skylerweaver. You should check it out. I am off to bed.

OK, I admit it. I believe in it; love. Some say that love is for wusses, but actually it is probably the greatest thing you can have if you can find it. Nothing else seems to matter when you are in love. I miss that. I know I will find it agian one day, but the in between time... It is good to stay busy. But having a little more time getting to play piano, listen to music, etc. Little things remind me of a simpler time such as high school. Has somewhat of a Nostalgia about it.

And I can't get this song out of my head:

Love, love changes everything: hands and faces, earth and sky.
Love, love changes everything: how you live and how you die.
Love can make the summer fly, or a night seem like a lifetime.
Yes, love, love changes everything, now I tremble at your name.
Nothing in the world will ever be the same.

Love, love changes everything: days are longer, words mean more.
Love, love changes everything: pain is deeper than before.
Love will turn your world around, and that world will last forever.
Yes, love, love changes everything, brings you glory, brings you shame.
Nothing in the world will ever be the same.

Off into the world we go, planning futures, shaping years.
Love bursts in and suddenly all our wisdom disappears.
Love makes fools of everyone: all the rules we make are broken.
Yes, love, love changes everything: live or perish, in its flame.
Love will never ever let you be the same.
Love will never ever let you be the same.

So you know how when we were all in grade school, we wondered if it was possible to sneeze and fart at the same time. And then we thought about what that would actually mean and what would happen. We all assumed that if one actually did happen to fart and sneeze at the same time, they would EXPLODE.

Brooke just proved, through an experiment, that you do not indeed explode. It just sounds kinda funny.

Yay! It is May Day. You are supposed to get up and then make some flower baskets and leave them on people's porches, but not me...not today. I woke up today at 2:00pm and I think I am sick. Headache. Sore throat. Fever. Stomach. You know. So I got up to have some cereal and then went back to bed. Then I finally got up at 7:00pm. I think that since I averaged about 4 hours of sleep per night last week being an engineer, I think that my body needed some freakin' rest. And so that is what I did. Got some rest. I think I might just get the minimum done that I need to do today and then go to bed. That probably means that I will go to bed around midnight. And then tomorrow maybe I will skip all my classes to catch up. We will see. I need to get better. I don't have time to be down...
Date: 04/25/2005

Well I was thinking about making a new webpage and even had it all set up, but now I am thinking that this site is still the most awesome and I am sticking with it. I will post more this morning about what is going on with me' life.

Horrah for me! It is my birthday week! So I turn 21 tomarrow, but lemme tell ya what. When I was hanging out with Jennie this weekend, she told me that I get a birthday WEEK. That is exciting. So far the first two days have been great. On Sunday Jennie gave me some hamentashen for my birthday week day one present. Plus I got to wear shorts on that day. Then yesterday, Monday, she hanged out with me and it was GREAT! We had turkey/bacon/swiss/avacado/ranch sandwiches then went to the bank where i got FIVE DOLLARS for standing in line five minutes. Then we went and looked at guitars. THEN we went to Borders and looked at books. It was fun because she is really cute looking at Costa Rica travel guides in the travel section. Haha. Then we went to the Beanery and had Jasmine tea (loose, holy crap good) and cheesecake!!! What an amazing day!!! And now today is CFS@KFC / Scrubs day so you know it will be good. I like my birthday week. This might turn out to be the best week EVER.

I am bulletproof! Today we had a test on Fourier Series and Transforms. I was somewhat worried since I didn't know what was going to be on the test, and didn't know how to study since it is just computations. Took the test and rocked it. Now for this weekend I have to do a lab write up (should take 8 hours), 351 homework (3 hours), and my term paper on "Origins of Judaism and Religions of the West" Only 7-10 pages. Shouldnt be too bad. And I get to hang out with Jennie at the end of it all. Jennie...wow.
I interviewed for an internship at Sandia Laboratories. I am not sure how excited I am yet. They make the saftey devices for the defense's weapons. I don't know if I want to be working and designing equipment that will be used to harm others. I guess the equipment we design is actually *protecting* others, but still its 2 sides of the same coin.

I am sick. Sharon gets sick, gives it to Jennie. Jennie gets sick, gives it to me. Sore throat, cough, the whole nine yards. It is great though, because I have 3 midterms this week. :oP Took one yesterday: ECE 331. Bombed it. So did the rest of the class though. So I think I will be OK. I think I have a new nickname now. Ben started it. Bill is calling me "the pirate" because Ben referrs to me as "SkylARRrrrrr." And now I found a note that was addressed to me as SkyLAR!... I have been applying for internships left and right. I had better not end up at Armstrong this summer! I think I would even rather just chill in C-town before going back. We shall see.

So here I am. It is the beginning of another week and I am already awake at 5:00am. I am a bit tired since last night I was with Jennie till 12:00am for Valentines day and my shift started at 4:00am. I think she liked the things I got her for Valentine's. I hope so. I hope she likes me. lol. I think she was very tired last night, because she only wanted to watch one Scrubs. And seeing as how they are the most addicting show in the world, that is a sure sign of total tiredom. Perhaps one day we will hang out when we are both refreshed and all will be good? Maybe that will be Thursday or Saturday. Oh well, such is life, and I am still happy because life is good. Life is great. I like it. I just wish I could freeze time sometimes so that I could do all the relaxing I wanted to, AND get all the work done. Oh well. That is what staying up/naps are for.

Happy Valentine's day! Today there was no ECE331 lab so I got some time to RELAX and go RUNNING. It was grreat! The sun was out and it was freezing cold and it smelled outside of cow poo. Tonight at 10ish, I will be going to see Jennie and give her her Valentine's Day present. It will be good times. I will be very tired, however, tomorrow since I have to work at 4:00am!!! But it will be worth it, because Jennie is an awesome girl.

Brooke, Ben, Jennie, and I all went out to Bir River for dessert and it was excellent. We had chocolate expresso cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake. Yumm... Then we went to Ben's for awhile and we danced and everything was wonderful. (Jennie wore a nice dress and I had my tux.) Then we came back to my place and watched some Scrubs and I had a great time with Jennie. :) yay.

Further evidence that this is going to be a great week! During my graveyard I finished the Econ assignment and started the 351. Then my shift ended with a pleasant surprise of Jennie came to the lab and brought me a flower: a daffodill. That brightened the day. I drove home, took a nap, and then off to economics... But ALAS! Economics has been cancelled today! Oh ta da! What a glorious day! This is shaping up to be the greatest week ever. Looking at next term, however, I may be in for a doozy. We'll see.

This is going to be a great week! I got a new couch and I love it! I need to try it out by watching a movie though...maybe later this week. What makes me VERY happy is that my afternoon lab was cancelled! So I am going to take a nice nap after just eating some great lunch (ham, cheese, bacon, avacodo, ranch sandwich). I took the ECE 322 midterm today. I am a beast! I estimate that i missed somewhere between 1 and 3 parts. This will be a great week.

It has been a loooong couple of days. Monday I was working on homework all day, and yesterday I had two midterms. So starting 3am on tues here is my day(s): Get up at 3:30am and go to work. Work at hovland till 8, go home and sleep a couple hours. Then Brooke, Ben, and I were studying and doing homework until 5am!!! Then 1.5 hours of sleep later I was up and took two midterms back to back. Meh that was teh suck. Then I got 2 hours of nap and was up again until 2am. Now I just took a midterm...AHAHHHHH.

But now it is all over. There is only 1 homework to do over the weekend. The calm after the storm is nice. :)

Today I saw something awesome. After driving home from school I just sat and watched a blue bird hop around on the lawn and look for worms. It was nice, and he almost seemed to be right in time with No Doubt. Secretly I think he knew I was there and he we puting on a show for me. Ha. So tonight is another solid block of homework...ick. But it will be ok because if I get everything done, then I get to go to the beach for the weekend with the boys! Yay! Breakfast: Waffles with strawberry syrup and whipped cream and apple juice

Wow, what to say...I went on a date on Friday and it was fun. I made dinner and went to a movie. Then we went out for gelato or something (Italian ice cream). So yes, times were good but they were almost a catastrophe. So I am making my legendary alfredo when I run into a problem. Since I was cooking pasta, sauteing mushrooms, and making the sauce all at the same time, I was quite busy. I tried a peice of pasta and it was done. I didn't want to overcook it so I went ahead and stained it. Then after another sample, the pasta WASN'T done! So I had to get some hot water and throw it back on the stove. In the meantime, my sauce was quite boiling so I quick threw the parmesean in but it was too late! The milk had curtled! So now what do I do? I go dump the sauce outside in the trash and wash out the pot, throw some Ragu in and the mushrooms. To make a longer story shorter, it was all done by the time she came over. Whew. So the food was good.

As for yesterday, I just did some homework and then hung out with Brendan. Now I am at Hovland "working" on the ECE 331 lab write up. Schoolwork is LAME. Oh well, it will pay the bills one day. I think that the band will finally get together this week. We shall see. Breakfast: Eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and orange juice...and Starbucks. (I know, corporate America)

Today got off to a rough start. Didn't want to get up, but I did. Either way, I missed my first class but did some homework during class. I then skipped another class to go to the store to buy parmesean cheese and good bread for my date tonight. That's right, I am going on a date tonight. She's a really nice girl and I hope she likes the dinner I make for her. Its gonna be my homemade alfredo sauce with linguine + a salad + some Big River bread with olive oil and balsomic vinegar to dip it in. Mmmm... Tomorrow, my neighbor Tom said that we could go take a look at my car (it is dead in the Muchas parking lot). I hope it is something minor...We'll see. Anyways, now I am going to take nap before I go on my hot date tonight! Breakfast today: 2 Nutrigrain bars

I have decided to start my own little online journal. A lotta my peeps have these online "blogs" or "livejournals" or what have you, but to this, I say, "Laaame." So here is my tribute to myslef, for I, Skyler Weaver, have created a superawesome online journal because I made mine myself with notepad. I love notepad. Notepad is like the single player version of a chat room. So I get to talk talk talk and no one can tell me to shut up. For example, if right now you are reading this online and are thinking that it is stupid, I DONT CARE. Go ahead and hit the "x" up in the corner and close it up. Take that. Anyways, today is an interesting day, but I'll get to that later. Off to economics! The most boring class in the world! (The teacher is a tool) Breakfast today: Corn chex and OJ
